A New Hope

The Children’s Hospital at Montefiore is still winning world renown for innovation medicine, while covering the basics. The ten story building on Bainbridge avenue that serves the crowd of 21 and younger received a whopping $6 million pediatric hybrid catheterization lab. This lab is the first of its kind in the city, and allows pediatric cardiac surgeons and cardiologist to perform minimally- invasive surgery on children’s hearts. This is would normally be a five-day hospital stay into a 24 hours service. This allows the hospital to be one of the first in the nation to treat some children with the disease while they’re at home. Nearly 80% of patients going through the CHAM network are already covered by Medicaid. It has 25 offices for primary and specialty care for children across the Bronx, where kids can receive preventive care and treatment for obesity, asthma and diabetes. These happen to three of the biggest health problems throughout the boroughs. There are also plans in the works to double the size of the hospital by building another ten story building next to the existing one to accommodate the overwhelming need of service. One statement by Dr. Philip Ozuah was “We wanted to be able to look any family in the eye and say “We can take care of your child, whatever happens””. He also stated "Now, we're standing at a threshold. We're looking at the next 10 years with an even more daring vision."
Technology is moving at a fast pace and while there can be dangers produced by these new advances so does the possibility of some extraordinary to happen. While people are suffering, these doctors are working endlessly to help these children overcome their illnesses. This is a small step to something that could potentially be greater than anyone could have ever imagined.

Solar power

Everything we've every used has always run on fossil fuels. Everything that takes up energy is running on it. So this crisis of what are we going to do when we run out of fossil fuels creates an interesting topic. What would be be our next source of energy? Is it going to be solar energy? Maybe it will be Biomass energy. Which ever ever source of energy it will be needs to happen soon, but it might just be happening sooner than most think. Professors at MIT may have a new source by creating systems that produce Solar Thermo-electric energy. Here's the story.

Mobile Internet?

Ok so we all now that when we can't get a Wi-Fi connection our technological lives are pretty much over. The only way I could think of would be a wireless network card, but that's an extra phone line that some of us just don't have in our pockets. The thought of a road trip or maybe just using the internet during work in between work sites. Chevy has just made this a possibility with their new 2012 Silverado. Though its only for contractors as of right now, how long do you think it will take to be available to the general public. In my opinion this is scary for the simple fact technology is moving at an amazingly fast rate. Judgement Day anyone? Here is the entire story.

Humans and Their Toys

"The same piezoelectric effect that ignites your gas grill with the push of a button could one day power sensors in your body via the respiration in your nose."

I think this statement alone is the beginning of a new era of technology. Though we don't have flying cars and teleporters, I think we've done good as a race. This article however opens up my eyes to new possibilities. Just to think some one with lung cancer could breathe better with a bit of technology in their body.

The Old still work

When thinking about today's society one of the first subjects to come to mind would be technology right. Not only as a country but as a world our technology has advanced within the last 30 years. As a society who went from cell phones that looked like bricks and beepers to smart phones and tablets that we can carry as if it were a laptop. As time has gone by however there are certain old mechanical technologies that computers just cant replace. Here's the article that spoke about old technologies still being used.

Not just us but the World

Sometimes us Westerners get caught up with our current technology and forget that there is an entire world out there for us to explore. Well as a young technologically seasoned man my first question would be why can't we do both. Guess I should have thought of that idea a while ago being there are experienced engineer designers working on that very idea. Here's some more on the story but just to think the idea of developing countries starting to advance just as we have.

Different mediums

For the past three and a half months speculations about Apple’s newest product, the iPhone 5, has been in much media talk. Anywhere from billboards, blogging, newspaper articles, televised press conferences, or even through text messages, the iPhone 5 has been stirring up much talk within the industry. Many don’t know what to expect out of Apple, but we all are sure that something may open our eyes a bit wider.
The main medium, which I found to be the most informative, was the internet. Just about every day there was an update on the iPhone 5 and speculations of what may be inside or what it make look like. The web spreads information like no other medium. From blogging to actual web articles, talks of the new phone have been stirring up. Out of all of the web artiles that I've encountered only a few stood out to me. One story covered how the new product would look. This article felt kind of like I was talking to the person who wrote the story instead of just feeling like it’s a formal article made to bore me. Reading through different web articles I found an article that spoke about the phone this one gave me information I wanted, in a reader-friendly view. Every different little spec the author touched upon had its own paragraph making it easy to read and understand.
In my opinion the next best medium would be television, but the only problem with this one is that not much of the iPhone 5 information has aired on tv. Mainly sticking to commercials Apple has almost had nothing to do with the internet’s medium competitors. Being that Apple is using television only as an advertisement tool I can’t really critique something that hasn’t given me any information besides “It’s perfect”. Apple has done a pretty good job on not having much if any information leaked about the phone. I think this medium does the best when giving views a taste of the product, or just to let people know that it is still coming out soon. The internet sometimes may give out too much information and turn customers away from what they hear. I know personally I would rather the iPhone 5 be the same shape as the four, instead of thinner.
The last medium would be the newspaper. Virtually no information has been printed on newspapers. I'm not sure why, but I have yet to even see one simple advertisement on a printed newspaper. I’m sure Apple considered the idea but it may have just come down to costs and labor for why they haven’t really had any articles in the newspaper. It’s much easier to reach viewers on the web and television nowadays. In recent polls people believe that internet users are better informed than radio, television and newspaper users. This could also be a factor to why we haven’t really seen any articles or even advertisements in the paper.

Overseas Business

According to recent news sources the rising cost in China are making it difficult to decide whether manufacturing would be better off to base factories in the U.S. The report states that though the initial idea of having a factory based in a different country is ideal but some hidden cost make stop future business ventures, maybe even current, in its tracks. Here’s the full story.
